The modern day driver is someone that truly cares about the environment. He is the protector of the passengers. He is the formator of strong Filipino families. He serves as an inspiration to his colleagues and to the transport group in general. They have the ethics worthy to be called the Pinoy Tsuper Heroes of today deserving to be recognized and applauded.
The Pinoy Tsuper Hero (PTH), the nationwide search for the role model Filipino driver has recognized its first grand winner at the Dolphy Theater of ABS-CBN Corporation on May 28, 2015. Pinoy Tsuper Hero is fueled by Phoenix Petroleum Philippines in cooperation with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation and Bayan Academy for Social Entrepreneurship and Human Resource Development (Bayan Academy) that aims to empower the transport group by engaging public-private partnership in providing quality information campaign and capacity building to promote drivers as defenders and not offenders. Since November 2014, PTH has been on the road gathering nomination forms from ten areas including Zamboanga City, Davao City, General Santos City, Bacolod City, Cebu City, Cavite, Batangas, Pampanga, Bulacan, Pasay City and Quezon City. The successful provincial activation was made possible by ABS-CBN Regional Network Group headed by Atty. Abigail Aquino-Querubin, the official media partner of PTH.

According to Mr. Uy, it was when typhoon Pablo hit the country and was being televised that on a Christmas time, some drivers will not be able to be with their family because they need to serve and drive for the victims of the typhoon, thus, giving him the idea of creating Pinoy Tsuper Hero.
”This will be the first program to recognize and appreciate drivers who do beyond their call of duty and who can serve as role models not only to fellow drivers but also to the fellow Filipinos,” Mr. Uy said. hit the country and was being televised that on a Christmas time, some drivers will not be able to be with their family because they need to serve and drive for the victims of the typhoon, thus, giving him the idea of creating Pinoy Tsuper Hero.

She mentioned that ‘pwede pala! and kaya pala!’ for the corporate businesses to raise money while raising consciousness.

The awarding ceremony was graced and attended by prestigious guests, Chairman Francis Tolentino of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Honorable Senator Grace Poe-Llamanzares who also shared their inspirational message to the Tsuper Hero.
Chairman Tolentino was grateful to be invited in the first program that recognizes the drivers of the country. He gave points on the importance of the transport sector in contributing for the economy of the country and the appeal to give importance to the drivers too by providing benefits.
“Sa makabagong panahon, ang ating mga tsuper ay isa sa mga sector na kailangang pagtuunan ng pansin maliban sa paglalaan ng pondo, imprastruktura dapat tutukan natin maging ang kanilang kalusugan,”, he shared.
The chairman also left a challenge to the drivers as they become the Pinoy Tsuper Heroes, he said to them, “magpatuloy sa pagseserbisyo ng may buong kagalingan at manguna sa paglikha ng mga bagay na may masaganang bunga ang ating mga driver, ang inyong kontribusyon maliit man o malaki sa paningin ng marami ay may benepisyo sa pangkalahatan.”
The PTH Team was also fortunate to have Senator Grace Poe-Llamanzares in sharing her time and relating the values acknowledged by his late father as it used to have famous movies starred by the role of a driver. Senator Poe- Llamanzares mentioned that driving also becomes his father’s basis in knowing one’s ability in making life. The drivers also became the most trusted ones in keeping life, making their family driver as her best example of being honest and confidant to them. But she reminded the drivers of its role to further the verve in the road by doing their responsibilities on their vehicles and in following traffic rules and regulations.
The senator also extends the help of her office to the Pinoy Tsuper Heroes in case they would like to be assisted with their grievances.
The culminating day also turned to be the kick-off of the Pinoy Tsuper Hero 2016 as Mr. Romeo De Guzman, the Chief Operating Officer of Phoenix Petroleum Philippines announced the expansion of the project for the upcoming year.
“This is not the end of this met, it’s just the beginning of what we have started this year. Next year we will launch a much wider horizon marami kaming pupuntahang lugar di lamang yung 10 regional places o lugar sa Pilipinas. Umaasa kami na itong mga Tsuper Hero ay magpapalaganap ng inyong mga lahi sa buong Pilipinas,” he announced.
The Road to the National Selection
The Pinoy Tsuper Hero regional winners needed to pass the Secretariat’ shortlisting process, verification and background check before facing the Regional Selection Committee. The Top 1 in the region faced the members of the National Selection on May 27, 2015 to present themselves and their transport related advocacies.
Ms. Celina Matias, AVP for Band & Marketing of Phoenix Petroleum Philippines, one of the co-chairpersons of the National Selection Committee, briefly shared the process and criteria that the finalists underwent during the finals interview and after attending a special course on social marketing for the transport group.
“For the presentation, we had several criteria, first is the relevance ad social impact of their project, doability, charisma and communication skills,” Ms. Matias shared. She also mentioned that the selection committee took into consideration on how did the 10 made it to the finals, “We also took into consideration lahat ng matrix kung bakit sila nandito – family background, safety, responsible driving, pre-inspection with the vehicles. All of these make our Pinoy Tsuper Hero today,” she added.
During the final presentation and interview, the National Selection Committee headed by Dr. Eduardo Morato, Jr., Chairman & President of Bayan Academy, pushed for the recognition of the personal qualities and the drivers’ ethics on top of their numerical scores.
“The reason why I don’t want the numbers to tie our hands is because their presentation is just half of the formula. We have to recognize their performances in taking care of their families, their abilities in protecting the environment, their very personal qualities. Having put the numerical scores, let’s make the qualitative differential,” he said during the nationwide finals deliberation.
