Ayurveda is considered as one of the oldest medical science, healthcare and healing system not just in India but in the whole world. In this fast-paced world filled with unhealthy lifestyle choices, Ayurveda helps the people to practice a healthy and balanced life.
On July 4, 2016, Shanti Institute of Ayurveda or SIA officially launched the 20-day Ayurveda Lifestyle Counselor Training in partnership with Bayan Academy for its Health Entrepreneurship Series.
The Ayurveda Lifestyle Counselors Training provides the unique opportunity to learn the fundamental principles and essential practices in holistic healthcare and healing in Ayurveda and its immense relevance today. The training also introduces Ayurveda, its history and branches, with focus on biology, pathology and pharmaceuticals in Ayurveda and Ayurvedic management of few common non-communicable diseases–which includes natural home remedies, home care, and self-help therapies and healing methods.
The Ayurvedic approach to nutrition is “Let Food Be Your Medicine”. The course uses this perspective in the topics covering food and nutrition. It presents what is called kitchen pharmacy, through knowledge of essential medicinal plants, then how to use home spices and local herbs as healthy and healing food. There will also be a kitchen demonstration of proper and healthy food preparation.
Ayurveda’s ancient twin–Yoga–was taken up in the course, and practiced as part of a healthy Ayurvedic lifestyle. This involves basic Yoga asanas or postures that include the full sequence of Surya Namaskar or sun salutation, plus mediation and pranayama or Yogic breathing, as tools for healing, health and balance.
The objectives of Ayurveda Lifestyle Counselors Training is teach the participants how to identify common health issues, preventable diseases, explain the changes in lifestyle in generations and its relationship with the emerging health, explain basic concepts, principles, philosophy of Ayurveda and its importance to reduce preventable diseases, explain Ayurvedic dietary and nutrition principles and demonstrate some food preparation, identify and explain the use of locally available herbal plants and spices, and their products readily available in homes in addressing common health issues and exhibit and practice basic yoga exercise for healthy lifestyle.
