Background
On July 6, 2018, Bayan Academy sealed a partnership with Norwegian Mission Alliance Philippines (NMAP) to implement its social enterprise development program for its community-based organizations (CBO’s) in Rizal. The program entitled Norwegian Mission Alliance Philippines (NMAP) Social Entrepreneurship Program is composed of three phases, namely:
Phase 1: Community-Based Social Entrepreneurship and Management (CBSEM) Training Program
Phase 2: Community-based Social Enterprise Advising and Coaching Services (CBSEACS)
Phase 3: Community-Based Social Enterprise Forum (2 days)
Phase I or the CBSEM is an 8-day social entrepreneurship training program for 14 community-based organizations (CBOs) in Rizal supported by NMAP. The program aims to capacitate the participants on how to operate a social enterprise. At the end of the program, each CBO is expected to come up with a draft of their community-based social enterprise plan and a business continuity plan. The enterprise plan will include marketing, operations, HR and financial plan or manual. There will be two runs with 50 participants per run. A total of 100 participants will benefit from the training. Bayan Academy will tap a trainer from the Humanitarian Leadership Academy to deliver the Business Continuity Plan Workshop.
After Phase I, the 14 CBOs will undergo social enterprise advising and coaching services for two months to finalize their community-based enterprise plans. They will be assigned with mentors to guide them in finalizing their plans. Mentors are expected to document their advising and mentoring process through cases which will be shared in the 3rd phase of the program.
Phase 3 which is a two-day forum will be held after the CBSEACS in order for the CBOs to present the community-based social enterprise plan to other CBOs and partners. The activity will showcase the best practices of CBOs. Lessons learned will be shared by the mentors. Through this, the 14 CBOs will learn from one another on how they will further sustain their community enterprises. There will also be social entrepreneurs to be invited to share their experiences.
