Background
The three-year partnership between Bayan Academy and Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) aims to establish Bayan Academy as a GREAT Women project 2 learning hub that services women-led enterprise enablers and their beneficiaries. For Year 1 (August 2017 to March 2018), one of the specific objectives identified is to develop the intellectual capital that could be used to build the competencies of GREAT Women Project 2's enablers and beneficiaries. With this in mind, PCW commissioned two main research projects for Bayan Academy for Year 1:
1) The conduct of three gender responsive industry studies that would identify gender value systems and family dynamics in relation to the supply product, and value chains of the three identified priority industries.
2) The conceptualization and development of the Social Entrepreneurship and Management (SEM) training program for women social entrepreneurs in the priority industries including all its learning modules, learning materials, and teaching guides in English, Filipino, and Cebuano.
The gender responsive industry studies will be done for the coffee, cacao, and weaving industries. The value chain framework of Dr. Eduardo Morato, Jr. and the relevant PCW references on macro, meso, and micro gender issues will be used.
SEM, on the other hand, will be a 10-day program that will have modules on self-mastery, the social entrepreneurial process, and the major management functions of a social enterprise. Visual learning tools, case examples based on the coffee, cacao, and weaving value chain studies, and a teaching workbook that could be used to transfer the learning methodology to the institutional social enterprise enablers, will be developed.
