Background
First Gen’s CSR is considering social enterprise development as a strategy for its various CSR programs. It has already started its program in Pantabangan, and is figuring out how to effectively push the same initiative in its other sites – Bukidnon, Agusan del Norte, and Batangas. To successfully implement such a strategy, First Gen has to fully appreciate the concept of social entrepreneurship. To help First Gen in this process of developing its CSR programs, a four-day introductory course on social entrepreneurship and social enterprise development will be delivered.
The course will first provide an overview of social entrepreneurship as a concept. It will then provide a discussion of the social entrepreneurial process of seeking, screening, and seizing for social enterprise opportunities. The module on seizing opportunities will include the management functions (marketing, operations, human resources, and finance) and how these are applied in a social enterprise concern. To provide experiential learning, a field trip to an actual social enterprise is included so the participants can better appreciate the theories behind the lectures. Furthermore, through the case workshops and discussions, the participants will be given opportunities to reflect on how they can directly apply the lessons learned for their budding social enterprise projects.
