Strengthening partnerships, continuing progress

Since 2010, the Citi Microenterprise Development Center (CMDC), in partnership with Bayan Academy, has been upskilling microentrepreneurs all over the country through the Grassroots Entrepreneurship and Management Program.

On March 15, 2019, CMDC partners, stakeholders and scholars got together for the CMDC Exposition the most recent batch of scholars were recognized.

Bayan Academy Program Director Basil Soriao formally opened the program. As it was National Women’s Month, Mr. Soriao shared how the CMDC was an early adaptor of gender equality with its earliest programs already designed for women microentrepreneurs’ economic empowerment. He thanked Citi Foundation for its continued trust and partnership with Bayan Academy, and wished the program graduates continued success.

In her opening remarks, Citi Philippines' Director and Head of Public Affairs, Lisa Coory, talked about CMDC's strong 10-year partnership with Bayan Academy. She also thanked program partners, including the Department of Trade and Industry, microfinance institutions and other organizations, who have helped make the CMDC a success.

Dr. Edith Venus Maslang, researcher from the University of the Philippines Social Action for Research and Development Foundation Inc. (UP-SARDFI), presented results of an impact assessment conducted on the 2012-2013 graduates. Afterwards, a short video featuring CMDC participants and graduates through the years was shown.

Certificates of recognition were awarded to Uplift Philippines, Ka-Entrep, Ahon sa Hirap, Inc., Kasagana-Ka Development Center, and UP-SARDFI for being program partners.

The event culminated with the awarding of certificates of completion to the 86th batch of CMDC graduates, with selected participants sharing their learning experience from the program.

At the end of the exposition, a video showing the 9-day journey of the graduates was shown.

The CMDC Exposition proved to be both a learning opportunity and a celebration for Citi Foundation and its partners as they continue to enrich Philippine microenterprises through free training programs.
